Dr. Lois Carme, J.D. Upper School Art/Department Head Co-Curricular
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, I am returning for my second year at Naples Classical Academy. It was the classical education format that initially drew me to Naples Classical Academy as the whole person formulation, missing in many schools is extremely important to me. Scholars thrive when they have the opportunity to study music, art, languages, and physical education and so many other schools are eliminating these offerings. I am pleased to say that Naples Classical Academy treasures them.
In addition to teaching both music and art for many years in Boston, I am also a Fulbright/Visiting Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University. The Fulbright designation is approved by the United States Government. As Visiting Professor at the University of Siena, Italy, I was able to teach Humanities and bring back incredible resources of Art History to our scholars.
Our curriculum is robust. Scholars are learning the spectrum of creation from the formal usage of a pencil to painting. Additionally, they are learning about many famous artists and art history. During this past summer, we also had several selected pieces from our Art Department hanging in the Baker Museum Student Exhibition. In addition to that, we also entered Artis Naples Button Contest and will be participating in several art contests this year.
It is an honor to teach your wonderful scholars and I continue to be amazed at the talent these scholars demonstrate.
